History of
Kota Doria Saree

The fascinating weaves of Kota Doria were first originated in Mysore. Subsequently, around 17th-18th century, the traditional weavers were brought to Kota in Rajasthan by Rao Kishore Singh who served as general during the reign of Shahajahan. The union between the two states brought about the invention of the 'Kota-Masuria' sarees, which were adorned for religious occasions since this type of material was considered auspicious. Since then, Kota Doria saree became popular and paved the way for the Kota Doria cloth that turned out to be one of the most fashionable fabrics in India. Handwoven on traditional pit looms in pure cotton and silk, the Kota Doria saree speaks for its artistic and unparalleled craftsmanship.

A lot of people face issues with the crispness of fabric which is very important for Kota sarees. The easy and simple way to achieve the crisp and fresh texture of a Kota Saree is the application of rice starch, which helps in giving a finishing touch to the saree. Please understand that starching a Kota saree will minimise wrinkling and give a more polished appearance in any season of the year. Starch also helps in protecting the fibre making it possible to enjoy wearing it for more years.
This way, we are supporting the handful of artisans who are ensuring the survival of this ancient art of fine weaving.
